Results so far: The majority of voters (69 percent) raise chickens for mostly eggs.
Thanks for voting, and if you haven't yet do so today! Your feedback will help guide us as we add more resources to poultryOne.com.

I voted, my vote was for fun, lol I raise them because I love them and no other reason, except for that.

Can anyone tell me how to "catch" free range roosters that were a gift. My ratio is 4 roosters to 2 hens, and I do not wish to have fertile eggs and lots of baby chicks! Thanks. Nerak

nerak: It's easiest to catch birds at night if you know where they go to roost and can get to them. If you can't get to them at night, try coaxing them to a place where you can trap them with a little grain. Just sprinkle a little trail down when they have started to eat and lead them to a pen or coop or whatever you can trap them in. I caught a chicken in a live trap once, unintentionally, so that might even work if you have or can borrow one. Failing the above, if you know where your hens are laying, take their eggs but be sure to leave one so the hens will continue to lay in those nests. If you take them all, they will find a new spot which you might not be able to locate. Good Luck, James
