I really love this site, and I want to know if I can help get the word out about it. I was looking for poultry pages through the google directory and this one didn't come up. In my mind that's just not right. Is there any way we can help others find this, the premier poultry web site.

Google works by 'crawling' through the web looking for popular sites. You increase your 'rank' the more pages you have your site listed on. I think that's why webrings are popular. I don't care for them myself. Incidentally, if you type 'raising poultry' into the google search bar, PoultryOne come up bottom of the first page.

Thanks guys! Kyser, we are in fact in the Google Directory (thankfully!) although it's easy to get in there. You can check out our listing at www.google.com/search?q=poultryone&btnG=Google+Search&hl=en&cat=gwd%2FTopThe Google Directory is based on the Open Directory Project, which can be located at dmoz.org The Open Directory is the most widely distributed data base of Web content classified by humans. Its editorial standards body of net-citizens provide the collective brain behind resource discovery on the Web. The Open Directory powers the core directory services for the Web's largest and most popular search engines and portals, including Netscape Search, AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot, DirectHit, and hundreds of others. Happily, poultryOne is looked on *very* favorably over at the ODP! In fact, we have received the much-coveted "Cool" award, which is rarely given and designates sites of extreme usefullnes. You can view our listing there at dmoz.org/Science/Agriculture/Animals/Birds/Poultry/As for Google listings, Google changes weekly (sometimes even daily). In the beginning of this year, we consistenly maintained a listing in the top 3 for almost 4 - 5 months. Unfortunately, search engine listings are not permanent and we have dropped down to the bottom of the page. However, that's not all *that* bad. Out of 1,640,000 pages about raising poultry, we are number 10 or higher. Remember, Google isn't the only search engine out there! We're in the top 5 for "raising poultry" on almost every other search engine (such as Yahoo). A lot of our new visitors comes from personal referrals from people like you who have found our site and fallen in love with it. Feel free to tell everyone you know about poultryOne.com and maybe even put a link to it in your signatures on other message boards and in your emails! There's nothing like a personal referral to get the word out.

Also, letters to editors of magazines and newletters are incredibly useful. Just drop them a note telling 1) how much you love their publication and 2) how you think poultryOne.com can help the hobby. If any of you are members of clubs or organizations devoted to building the poultry hobby, this is a great way to help get the word out.
poultryOne.com is pretty much a volunteer-run project with people like Anna stepping in to assist. Thank you so much for wanting to help us out!
