We have just hatch our first brood of chicks and seem to have a problem with one. It was born about 7.00pm and was very sticky and had the membrane still attached to its body and the shell. It continued like this for a while until the shell became detached. Now it still has the membrane attached to its body. Is this ok. thanks michelle

Michelle: I assume when you say membrane you are not talking about the yolk sack? If the yolk sack is attached it can break. Chicks like this don't usually do well and most die. If you are talking about the cord that would be the chicken version of the umbilical cord, that is normal and will dry up quickly. James
