My chickens occasionally lay a soft shelled egg. I feed them plenty of oyster shell and there eggs are normally fine. Anyone with a similar situation?

ben: If your hens have not been sick or stressed and you are feeding them a good layer ration, it's likely just a problem with the hen's ability to make use of the calcium she has available. One thing you could try is adding Apple Cider Vinegar (15ml or 1 tablespoon) per gallon of water. You have to buy the Apple Cider Vinegar that is available in Health Food Stores. The brown sediment in the bottom of the bottle, called "the Mother" shows that it is the product you need. James

Thanks. I think my dog may have caused this anomaly. I'll take this under advisement.

If the eggs shells are thin as paper , give your chickens oyster shell. The reason the eggs are that thin is because the chickens are low on calcium.
